Maple Leafs Prospect Richard Greenop's Career In Danger, Though Not From Fighting

Quote:
The funny thing is, through the fog, Richard Greenop remembers the moment vividly.

The collision that left him with his latest concussion, and put his professional hockey career into a state of limbo.

Greenop, a six-foot-four, 213-pound right-winger and enforcer for the 2008-09 Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires, hasn't strapped on the blades in quite some time, and doesn't know when he will again.

Of his hockey future, Greenop, 23, says, "It's up in the air now.

"That's one of the most frustrating parts for the guys who are having concussions. There's no timeline."

He was playing his usual hard-nosed brand of hockey for the East Coast League's Reading Royals that night on home ice against the Trenton Devils, when he bodychecked an opposing player.

"I remember everything from that," Greenop said.

"I remember the whole situation."

He immediately realized that he was in trouble.

While many will be chalking up Greenop's difficulties to a career as a scrapper - according to hockeyfights.com, Greenop dropped the gloves 66 times as a Spitfire - he has one piece of advice to offer.

Don't go there.

"All my concussions have been from hits," Greenop said. "I haven't really had any from fights."
