Ok, I'll buy this was a suspension-worthy hit, but I would have only given 2 games at most, even with Staubitz having record. I still don't think the league is really factoring in preseason games (except apparently for Brad Boyes
, who shouldn't have been suspended anyway) in determining suspension length because no money is forfeited by the player during the preseason. Seems like a bit of an overcall, but could have been worse.
And while I'm not enjoying all the media praise Shanahan gets as a result of these videos for a suspension-happy preseason, I actually do think they're not a bad idea. We never had any clue what Colin Campbell
(wasn't) thinking when he handed out discipline, and the rare times he explained himself on camera he came off like a complete and total idiot. So at least Shanahan is explaining the reasoning going into the decision, even if we may not agree with it.
