Ok, I'll buy this was a suspension-worthy hit, but I would have only given 2 games at most, even with Staubitz having record. I still don't think the league is really factoring in preseason games (except apparently for
Brad Boyes, who shouldn't have been suspended anyway) in determining suspension length because no money is forfeited by the player during the preseason. Seems like a bit of an overcall, but could have been worse.
And while I'm not enjoying all the media praise Shanahan gets as a result of these videos for a suspension-happy preseason, I actually do think they're not a bad idea. We never had any clue what
Colin Campbell (wasn't) thinking when he handed out discipline, and the rare times he explained himself on camera he came off like a complete and total idiot. So at least Shanahan is explaining the reasoning going into the decision, even if we may not agree with it.
