NHL Suspends Brad Staubitz for Remainder of Preseason and Three Regular-Season Games

NEW YORK -- Minnesota Wild forward Brad Staubitz has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason and for three regular-season games for an illegal hit from behind to Columbus forward Cody Bass during a preseason game on September 23, NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Staubitz will forfeit $9,324.33. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

At 4:24 of the third period, Staubitz hit Bass from behind and into the glass. Bass was injured on the play. Staubitz was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind.

Staubitz missed the Sept. 24 preseason game at Pittsburgh and will miss preseason games Tuesday vs. St. Louis, Thrusday at Columbus and Friday vs. Edmonton. He also will miss regular-season games Oct. 8 vs. Columbus, Oct. 10 at the New York Islanders and Oct. 11 at Ottawa. He will be eligible to return Oct. 13 vs. Edmonton.
