Jackets Activate Modin Off IR; Assign MacKenzie to Syracuse

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated left wing Fredrik Modin off Injured Reserve and assigned center Derek MacKenzie to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Modin, 35, was injured during a preseason game at Minnesota on September 18. Playing in his 13th season in the NHL, the Sundsvall, Sweden native has registered 220 goals and 221 assists for 441 points, 413 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +11 in 814 career games with the Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.

MacKenzie, 28, tallied 1-3-4 and was +4 in 16 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He leads the club in plus/minus rating. In 62 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Atlanta Thrashers, he has collected 3-5-8 and 30 penalty minutes. The Sudbury, Ontario native has notched 3-6-9, 10 penalty minutes and is +4 in 11 games with the Crunch this season. He was originally Atlanta’s sixth pick, 128th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft. In 514 career AHL games, he has tallied 133-161-294, 547 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +48 with Chicago and Syracuse.
