"With Kris Letang headed to Pittsburgh to be evaluated while the rest of his teammates head to Boston, it seems likely that
Deryk Engelland will make his NHL debut Tuesday night against the Bruins on Versus. His story is a pretty remarkable one. Before Engelland came to the Penguins, he was basically a tough guy who bounced between AHL and ECHL, even playing a little wing here and there, and there was no reason to see him as any kind of a prospect. The Penguins used him in a stay-at-home D role and he flourished. 422 games into his pro career -- 148 in the ECHL and 278 in the AHL -- he finally reaches his goal.
I'm mentioning this now because once a guy gets thrown into the NHL lineup, there's no time for sentimentality. After Tuesday, Engelland will be judged by his performance, and that's the way it should be. Now's the time to reflect on the storybook nature of it all."
