Correction - Every player who has played at least 41 regular season games all season or plays at least one playoff game gets there name on the cup and a ring... unless they were traded at the deadline and are no longer part of the organization.

There are exceptions though and players that have less than 41 games but have made a contribution can get a ring (i don't think they would get there name on the cup though) every team has different rules I think.

Prior to 1977 only players who had completed the Stanley Cup playoffs were eligible. Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.
So there's still a chance a player could get their name on it if the team tries hard enough to get it on there.
