Calgary, AB -
Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition of defenceman
Lawrence Nycholat off NHL waivers.
“Nycholat is a similar type player to
Mark Giordano,” said Sutter. “We were prepared to give up a draft pick to acquire a depth defenceman.”
The 6’0”, 200lb rearguard has played 14 games with the
Vancouver Canucks this season recording one point while averaging 9:41 of ice-time.
A native of Calgary, Nycholat was acquired by the Canucks on September 2, 2008 from Ottawa.
Following a four-year junior career with Swift Current, Nycholat signed as a free agent with the
Minnesota Wild. Nycholat has also played with Washington and the
New York Rangers.
