The
Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Luca Caputi to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.
Caputi was selected by the Penguins in the fourth round (111th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent this season with Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and recorded 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 66 games played to rank fourth in league scoring. Caputi ranked third overall in the OHL with 51 goals. He also played 10 playoff games scoring 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) before his club was eliminated in the second round of the OHL playoffs. Caputi registered a hat trick plus added an assist during Game Five in the series vs. Oshawa on April 11th.
Caputi was selected to the Eastern Conference team at the OHL All-Star Classic and recorded one assist in the contest. He has played four seasons in the OHL scoring 185 points (86 goals, 99 assists) in 214 games.
