Less than Jake and Reel Big Fish
Roseland Ballroom, NYC
Thursday July 19
Floor
I don't know what the following of these two bands is on here. I'm a much bigger fan of the older albums from both bands, but I still enjoy their newer releases. This was one of the best shows I've been to, however, despite a relatively young audience. This was the third time I'd seen Reel Big Fish in concert, and they continue to amaze me with their ability to get the crowd going. They played an Enter Sandman cover, which was really amusing, and made a couple other Metallica references during the show which were great. I've always been a huge Less Than Jake fan, but never had the chance to see them in concert. They put on a great show using a Price Is Right theme, including using the theme song as their entrance. They had 3 members of the audience come on stage to play games from the game show including Plinko and that spin the wheel thing, which chose the albums they played song off of. Unfortunately, one of the albums picked was their newest release, which was disappointing. They redeemed themselves with a great close and a great encore.
Also, one of the openers for the show was Streetlight Manifesto, another ska band I'd heard of but wasn't familiar with much of their stuff. They put on a pretty good show as well.
Basically, for people who used to enjoy these two bands, I'd still recommend trying to see them in concert as their live shows are still high quality even if the albums have declined.
