Three lefts to finish it gives Gillies the edge.

For those just watching the clip that didn't watch the game a couple of notes...

First, King was at the end of a hard skating shift when challenged after a nice body check. During the circling you might have noticed King bending over a bit (elbows towards his knees) getting his breath. After serviing his 5 he was back out on the ice no worse for the wear.

Second, I did not see Gillies skate another shift after the fight. I didn't see King land anything substantial to keep him out. Hopefully Gillies didn't hurt a hand or pull something during the bout. It could be with the score so close thoughout the game the coach had him riding the pine. Let's hope that was the case.

I give Gillies the win, but It was in no way a KO, TKO or even a stunning blow. You can clearly see King with his right cocked ready to come back firing when the linesmen stepped in. I would love to see these guys go when they are both fresh!!!

Two big surprises yesterday King got dropped and so did Orr.

okay scrap, too much pre-fight dancing with little in substance.. They'll meet each other many times this season and it should be better in future rounds.

I like King, but Gillies won this fight in a close bout.

Gillies was impressive here. I thought that King would be able to handle him but he got handled himself. I'm sure that even DJ is embarrassed that his parents voted for him because even he would tell you that he ate 3 times more than what he gave.

So much for the hype surrounding D.J. King.

King started okay but once he missed with a right he got buckled. Gillies landed more and he was more effective. Round 2 should be good...
