Ruutu went out of his way to hit Ilya...but his intentions can't be determined. It didn't look dirty to me...Ruutu didn't blatantly stick out his knee. Can't blame McCarthy though for immediately dropping the gloves and going to work. No much of a fights...

Ruttu is a piece of s- - -! Going after the best player deliberately. Good thing he had his head turned! Beware other teams. You try to mess with Kovy you'll pay!

My take on this is more than a little biased, since I HATE Jarko Ruutu, but...

If you ask me, Ruutu sees Kovalchuk trying to avoid the check and deliberately sticks his knee out, hoping to make some kind of contact.
Reminds me of his hit on Jagr back in Torino.
I personally think that Ruutu is tasteless and tries to hurt people the majority of the time.

But as for the fight, which is hard to call a fight considering that Ruutu didn't even get his gloves off, McCarthy pretty much dominates with all those shots to the back of Ruutu's head.

Mr. Ruutu, you're a hack.

I am a big Kovalachuk fan and I hate to see him get hurt, but this was a perfectly legit hit. Their knees just hit each other, it was not intentional nor dirty

Ruutu is the consummate cheapshot artist and I feel he didn't try to whack knees, his hit would have really blasted Kovalchuk but all he got was knee. Most players would get the benefit of the doubt but not Ruutu. He deserved the linesman to let him get more of the beating he was taking!

Ruutu is one of the dirtiest players in the NHL.
He got what he deserved.

Mega pu$$y Ruutu knees Kovalchuck and McCarthy goes for payback...and Ruutu does nothing! What a fukkin' motherfuker!
Who voted for Ruutu? Some blind and retarded homer?

Ruutu is a moron!

That was NOT an intentional knee on knee. Kovi moved and left part of a body there for the check.

Ruutu is a piece of shyt. Takes out one of the most exciting players in the game and then whines about it. Fock that guy and his brother.
