Ryan Stone vs Steve Downie

Jan 24, 2008 Pittsburgh Penguins Ryan Stone
3pd 05:34 Philadelphia Flyers Steve Downie
Comments: They find each other near center ice and then drop the mitts. They grab ahold of each other and exchange rights. Stone's jersey goes up and over his head but he continues to throw right hands while Downie tries to duck away from them. Downie then comes back with a right just as Stone falls to the ice. Downie gets in two more after they hit the playing surface but the linesmen are right there to break things up.

Downie ended up on top in a pretty good scrap. Nice to see Downie in a real fight and not hitting someone from behind, or with his stick.

Downie slight edge but it was very close. Glad Downie was ok after Laraque's hit.

Win Stone. Stephanie Downie ducks and hides, then hits after they fall down. Typical goof Flyer.

If Downie is going to fight he's got to take off that stinkin' visor. Come on.

What, no bell??
The intial video made it look like a draw but watch the slow mo as Downie lands a beauty left that staggers Stone. The intial video switched angles just as the left was thrown. Stone has been sent back to Scranton/WB so don't expect a rematch. Apparently either Downie or one of his trainers forgot to tie is Jersey down after his examination following The Laraque Express at the end of the 1st period, hence the game misconduct.
Downie had walked away from Laraques hit chuckling, but expect Colonostopy hand out those suspensions like chaw in the trailer park.

Kid stood up for himself after a vicious hit from Big Georges that probably could have killed him. Probably could have been playing with a spinal injury, a concussion, brain damage, but Downie didn't care. Came right back out for the third period and showed he's got guts--maybe no brain--but i'll be damned--giant brass balls.

Also tie-down wasn't strapped down--probably from his medical eval in the locker room after the Laroque hit. Slight edge Downie getting a few in at the end. And don't give me the visor crap--they both had one on, he just happened to get Stone's whereas Stone couldn't get his. Kid's a maniac.

Downie has a problem right now of being pegged as a Darcy Tucker or Avery, dick type of player, he's more talented than that and should focus more on putting pucks in the net for his team. Could end up being a waste of a good hockey player, like the one I thought he was when leading the world junior team to gold. Maybe he'll wake up and wisen up with age. If not he's in serious trouble.

Typical of Downie to fight with a visor on. What a *****! Also typical of him to throw shots at the guy when he's down. We all saw him sucker punch Jason Blake while he was down and being held by linesmen. Can't wait for Belak to teach this kid a lesson in March. I'm counting down the days......I'm sure Mr. Downie knows it's coming.

Not much happening, but as a lover of hockey fights ... hey I'm not complaining! Downie has some guts - PERIOD! The kids is learning and has taken his lumps, both mentally & physically; however, he's an asset to the team for sure.

Downie is a cheap shot artist ... like all the Flyers.
