Pretty much a draw, possibly with a slight edge to Downey, because at the end McLaren was putting all his energy into the takedown while Downey was still throwing punches.

Definately one of the better fight accross the league today. Downey get the win in my book.

Downey did a nice job switching hands and controlling the much bigger McLaren

Finally the Red Wings sign a tough guy!!! Hopefully they keep Downey in the lineup. I really believe that the Wings won the Stanley cup in 97 and 98 was because they had players like KOCUR, MCCARTY, and LAPOINTE.
GO WINGS!!!

I'd say if it wasn't for the "visor" rule this fight would have gone in a much different direction. But since McLaren is forced to shed his helmet and then has to try to remove Downey's I'd call it an uneven bout. Downey, man up and don't hide behind the helmet, if he sheds his then you should do the same.

Holy crap, did I just see a Wing actually fight? lol

Downey gets this one. Had McLaren gotten in that left hander, Im confident it would have dropped Downey, it had some force behind it.

Nice fight for both. Gotta give Downey the win since he did more damage(see MacLaren's face). Its good to see the Red Wings finally have someone that has the balls to stick up for his teammates(for both Drake and Zetterberg). Downey is no bruise brother, but his heart and fists is a big as any.

I taped the game and the angle that I got is much different than the Youtube angle. It was a hands down win for Downey. Almost all of the lefts he threw landed and you could see a cut on the forehead of McLaren. The take down was obviously not a punch, but he muscled him down and that's worth something.

Where was this when he was with Montreal?

I love Aaron Downey, First saw him in the mid-90s in the ECHL in Norfolk. He was a below average player even for that low league, but became a legend through hard work and toughness. When he scored his first NHL goal for the Hawks it was front page sport section headline in Norfolk Va. He wore this guys ass out, Gosh I hope he does well, the Wing fans will fall in love with him!!

Congratulations to the Detroit Fans. Aaron Downey is one of the best fighters around. The first year he played on the Dallas Stars team, he knocked out a big thug from the Hurricanes in one punch. Aaron has boxing training and he's a big strong guy. His nickname the diesel comes from his farm days and a never quit attitude. Weak on hockey skills is why Dallas let him go. I still wish he played here as our guys don't have an enforcer of his caliber anymore. I thought this particular fight was okay but I've seen better.

Couple of ex-B's ... miss McLaren in Beantown ... but that's what happens when you speak out ... they send you to a better place.

Downey out-pointed the bigger McLaren.
