Apr 3, 2007 St. Louis Blues David Backes
3pd 07:36 Phoenix Coyotes Keith Ballard
Comments: Backes plays the puck into the Coyotes' zone and exchanges shoves with Ballard until the two decide to drop the gloves near the end boards. They grab ahold of each other and Backes slams his helmet down to the ice. Ballard unstraps his and Backes throws two rights that knock Ballard's helmet off anyway. Ballard throws a right and then gets his left hand up in Backes' face before throwing another right. Ballard switches hands and throws two lefts with Backes coming back with two rights while they are in-tight. They grapple for a moment and Ballard gets in a left just as Backes throws a right cross. Ballard throws a short left and Backes switches to the left as well, throwing two of his own. They then spin to the ice and the linesmen are there to intervene and quickly break things up.

Ballard is class. Decent middleweight as well. Good on Backes to stand up for himself. Draw.

Not who'd you expect but it seemed from the video, it had been brewing. Those hip checks are evil but Backes didn't do anything to punish Ballard, Ballard landed a couple and got the takedown. Pretty crappy fight.

pretty boring fight. a few shots might have landed for each fighter. DRAW

Backes threw his own helmet off! I love this guy! Not the greatest fight but OK. Bummer he didn't win.

I always like it when two guys who don't normally fight decide to throw down but it rarely amounts to much. This was a draw. Period. Neither one of those guys can say in the locker room, "He'll think twice about fighting me next time.". Two lower tier middleweights in a bout that was worthy of a commercial break. But, hey, at least they were legitimately mad at each other.

Two MN boys! Nice! Played against Backes in high school. Ballard is a class act. Have to root for the Gold and Maroon though.

this goes back even farther than college. back to their USHL days. Backes played for Lincoln and Ballard played for Omaha. Both great teams while those guys were there and close to each other to fuel the rivalry.

This goes back to their days playing against each other in the U of Minnesota/ Minnesota State Mankato rivalry in college.

It's pretty close to call, i'll give it a draw.

not a bad tilt for Backes considering it was the first of his career. they both got a few decent shots in, I give it a draw.

Whether the fight was good or bad, it's nice to see the two gentlemen take off their helmits/visors and let their fists do the damage. Total respect for the game and each other. For me, that puts more adrenaline into the fight. These two put a big distance between themselves and those other P***IES, like "Doug" Murray, Lat- whatever his f***en name is from Montreal, etc. This is the way you do it! Ballard landed more. Win Ballard
