Looked like a clean hit to me. Kudos to Boynton for coming in for his teammate. Finally a hawks game that was fun to watch. It only took them a whole season to realize they were getting pushed around.

OK fight with Koci the clear winner. Boynton started this one after Koci cleaned the clock of the Coyotes' Thomas with a huge hit when Thomas had his head down. The guy is a physical presence and obviously not afraid of anyone. We'll see in the long run.

Koci was lucky Gratton wasn't on the ice. Thomas doesn't wear a visor so that's why there is blood all over the ice.

More poor officiating. Under video review, we can tell it was a clean, legal hit. Koci wasn't all that impressive in fight #1 and this one gets equal marks. The hit is more exciting than the ensuing fight.

Have to agree with the non-fight here, however for some of you that may not know this (judging by first page of posts, most of you do not) the NHL is cracking down on hits to the head, as they should be. Koci had every right to hit Thomas, BUT NOT TO THE HEAD!!!!

You may say that the head was all that he could hit, that is not true. He lead with his shoulder right to the chin, it is clear from the last part of the video that his intent was to knock the guy out.

After seeing the video, I would have to say he should have gotten an intent to injure misconduct. It's a tough call for the official, who is trailing the play, he has to give a major here, it obviously wasn't a cross-check or elbow, spear, slash or roughing...that leaves charging. My guess is that Koci's actions earlier in the game were taken into account here.

For those of you who have never been on the bench of a professional hockey team, that was the right call. Hitting is part of hockey, but head hunting isn't.

Koci is the man! Old school kick butt ... 3 fights in one game. He should be nominated MVP of NHL. Nice job you lunatic ... Koci! He is in the same gene pool as Cam Jannsen ...

completly in agreeance with mikebflorida, how did Neil not get a penalty and Kocci got booted? You can't hate on the Sabres for what they did, and then turn around and Kocci a coward too! Hypocrites

there was a huge difference between this hit and neil's hit. this one was way more legit. he glided in there, hit him with his SHOULDER a split second after he played the puck and it was more from the side than from behind. Yet he gets a major charging whereas neil's hit which was 10x worse got nothing

i don't even know how he received a charge for that. by the rulebook, a charge is defined as a player taking a run (2 or more steps before the check) at another. koci glided in

unfortunately, couldn't see much of the scrap. but it looked like koci got 4 or 5 good punches in before boynton got in 2 of his and the knock down. winner = koci?

(this new nhl sucks too much. let them play. and if youre gonna not let them be physical, be consistent about it.)

Fight sucked. Clean hit yes and no. I'm mean he did get a penalty for it. His elbow was down. Pure shoulder to head. Not Koci's fault he's taller than the guy he hit. BUT, this is the type of hit that could end somebodies career. It's a check that starts from behind, a blind side hit. I'm not ok with the hit. Koci was running people the whole game. I'm not sure what you would call this hit other than a blind side hit. It wasnt charging. His legs were not moving. He glided into the guy. It's a cheap hit imo. I agree with the hockey doc. This guy is a goon and the last thing the NHL needs after Simons brain fart.

I agree with mikebflorida! It was really hard, hard check but clean IMO! No elbow, feet still on the ice,hit player is in contact with the puck! Yes,he hit him with the shoulder right in to the head, but what the fu*ck he has had to do?!?!? David is 6'6'' tall,Thomas is 6'1''....his shoulder is in same layer as Thomas head... He deserved 2+2 for roughing most probably, but 5 min major for charging... :-/

If thomas passes to his left he sees him --but thomas feeds to the right and watches to see if his pass is received opening him up to a hard hit--if he doesnt get bloodied--then it's a great hit--but because he goes down hard--its cheap. Should Koci have tapped him on the shoulder and said " Hey--I could have hit you. No--hockey is a contact sport. It was a clean hit no question---thomas needs to look at more than 2 players on the ice next time.

yeah, blindside.

Bill Thomas is a buddy of mine. While I'd say the same thing about that hit regardless of who the player is, maybe I'm biased? I think the hit was definitely a blindside cheapshot to the face. I don't have a problem with hitting someone that short after a pass, that's hockey. N'or do I have a problem with hitting someone if they're not aware of people around them. What I can't stand is the shoulder to the face or the elbows to the head. The NHL is losing control. With bigger players going after muhc smaller players, that's where the problem is.

Yes Bill should have taken a hit with his head down like that. But he's hardly comparable in stature to Koci. WHat's stopping some sumor wrestler from learnign to skate and boarding someone?
If this sh!t continues, we're gonna lose the best players in the game.
Smarten up officials!!!
