Brouwer hits a Blue Jacket in the corner, Malhotra sees this and takes acception. Malhotra skates toward Brouwer with the gloves off, Brouwer sees this and drops his. They lock up and get in tight. They wrestle for a bit, until Malhotra lands a right. They wrestle for a bit more until Brouwer gets off about six straight punches. They go back to wrestling, then Malhotra lands a punch to the back of Malhotra's head. Malhotra then takes Brouwer to the ice and the linesmen come in to break the fight up.

Troy Brouwer vs Manny Malhotra

The Blue Jackets are disappointed, trailing 3-0 towards the end of the first period. Troy Brouwer takes a run at Gilbert Brule, and Manny Malhotra takes exception by dropping the gloves. Malhotra gets Brouwer's helmet off from the beginning, and Malhotra starts off with a solid right, but misses the target. They wrestle around a bit and Brouwer throws a right, hitting Malhotra's helmet. Brouwer throws about five more rights, all hitting Malhotra's helmet, then rips his helmet off. Brouwer comes back, connecting with two solid rights, then Malhotra wrestles Brouwer to the ice, and the linesmen move in.

It seemed Malhotra attempted to utilize Brouwer's own helmet with his first punch to gain an edge in the fight, but it didn't work. Brouwer was patient and landed a few nice punches, althrough Malhotra had a nice take down.

I'm curious was the ref was saying to Brouwer before he let him off the ice. Could it be, "Would you be my valentine?"

I'm a hawk fan, so I'm just glad Brouwer didn't get his a** kicked, I think he did pretty well actually. Malhotra looked like he got a little more than he bargained for. I don't give points for take-downs...so it goes to Brouwer.

weak fight. malhotra trying to throw, brouwer just holding on desperately to the inside of manny's upper arms, spreading him wide and thin, and not attempting to throw many punches of his own, although he does get off a few in quick succession eventually. he must have seen malhotra cold cock ken daneyko back in 2000-01 or something. straight up draw. malhotra demonstrated superior strength, winning the war of attrition for position, getting off a couple of very small punches, but brouwer gets points for the short flurry of blows, despite ultimately taken down. its an even heat on this one.
