Jan 9, 2007 Minnesota Wild Derek Boogaard

They drop the gloves right off the faceoff, grab on and get in tight. Boogaard gets off a couple of rights, high and low as Godard tries to get his arm free. Godard gets a few rights off, but they come up short. Boogaard then lands a left and switches back to the right, landing a few high and mixing in one body shot. Boogaard lands a couple of more rights while Godard tries to get his own rights in that don't seem to reach. Boogaard mixes in a couple of more high and low rights and Godard slips his right arm inside Boogaard's grip. Godard then lands two hard shots and Boogaard goes to a knee, only to get up quickly. Godard quickly lands a couple of more shots sending Boogaard back to his knees. Godard then drags Boogaard down to prevent him from getting up again as the linesmen move in to break it up. After a moment in the penalty box, Boogaard went to the lockerroom and did not return to the game.

Godard caught him right behind the ear twice....those hits hurt like crazy and it is very easy to get knocked out when you get hit there. Excellent work by Godard. Gotta give Boogie credit...he never once gave up!

Good job by Godard to get inside the reach of Boogaard and lay the hammer. TKO Win Godard.

AS AN ISLANDER FAN I'VE WATCHED GODARD OVER THE YEARS ,HE HAS LOST VERY FEW FIGHTS,HE HAS TROUBLE WITH SHORTER TYPES(ORR,LESSARD),WITH GUYS WHO LIKE TO THROW HE'LL TRADE WITH ANY ONE AND 9 OUTTA 10 HE'LL COME OUT ON TOP ,HE ALSO HAS AN IRON JAW,HIS BOUTS WITH MCGRATTON WERE AWSOME.SO WHAT HE DID TO BOOGARD DOES'NT SURPPRISE ME AT ALL,WHILE ON OCCASION HE WILL LOSE TO A GUY HIS SIZE(REED LOW,GRATTS)BUT OVERALL HE IS DEFINATELY TOP 5 .

I gave Godard the slight edge for throwing the best punch of the fight.

Boogard is one of the toughest guys around, and Godard handled him. What does that tell you? Both of these guys will be around for a long time to come.
