Mayers enjoys being the 2nd man in on a fight....he should have come in, lined up, and agreed to fight in stead of jumping in and fighting a guy that was quite ready.....and possibly injured before hand
The announcers are easily outed homers. Boll wasn't "just finishing his check". He went in and clobbered a guy who was already engaged. They give Mayers heck for "coming in", despite the fact it was Boll who "came in" to throw a check he was supposedly finishing (despite not being in on the play until the end).
The officiating of TWO instigators in the game was limp-wristed.
Boll was hurt, but stayed out there and went after another player. He was healthy enough to hit a smaller player who was already engaged, he was healthy enough to tassle with Jamal.
Mayers made short work of him. Yes, Boll was hurt, but he got N O T H I N G in on Mayers. He didn't even try. He knew he was in trouble.
Mayers - great sticking up for a teammate! Maybe Boll should keep his elbow down when he finishes a check? What did he think was going to happen? Thanks - and win to Jamal!!! Again - the INSTIGATOR RULE SUCKS!!!!
@ mudman55 I understand what you're seeing saying it was a clean hit. I thought the same thing at first during the game in real time. While watching it again in a few different angles of replay, I have to disagree though. Hjalmarsson was clearly already trying to turn away from the first check, and if you watch close at 0:03 seconds in this video, you can see in incredibly clear HD video that Boll's teammate even turns out of the way of Boll's check, even though he was already in position for his own check and puck control. Luckily, he didn't get a solid hit on either of the guys, but he barely missed illegally knocking the head of the Hawk AND his teammate.
Mayers did well defending this. As I said, in real time, it really didn't look like a bad hit, but it's clearly a kill shot; hands and stick in the air, player already engaged, full speed ahead into the boards.
While Mayers threw the only punches of fight, I score it a draw for Mayers jumping him while he was looking at Seabrook. Not to mention it appears Boll was injured. Again another good hit results in gloves droppign, getting so old.
Boll again runs a Hawk and this time it is Jamal who comes after him. This time Boll looks like he wants nothing to do with this fight and Jamal lands 3-4 before slamming Boll to the ice. Nice win for Mayers 6.
as a note - instigator rule a compete joke...there is no room for it in this new look nhl!!!
