Defensive jersey grips, and compatible reach issues,
negate the potential for, what could have been, an interesting scrap.
Aside from the odd jersey jab, and a whack of misses...
you'd have to dust the glass for prints
to find any signs that a actual fight ''almost'' took place.

After watching the MacIntyre-Koci toe to toe exchange, this fight can be simply labeled as "Boring."

They ought to give these guys four minutes each for delay of game. They certainly weren't fighting.

You can see Crombeen asking to go ++ and even dropped the gloves.
Would have been funny (and a 2 min powerplay) if Martin just skated away and left him standing there.
I thought this was going to be a beating by Crombeen but Martin protected himself well.
Going Draw.

i am a little surprised this fight is rated where it is. it is my least favourite kind of fight. the only thing landing are jersey jabs. they both gave it a bit of effort to land something more meaningful, but every big shot only punished the cold air. draw and a 3.

i too am liking the isles more and more. honestly don't care for haley, and gillies i'm riding the fence with (he's awesome/enjoy the minors, pal), but overall, they seem to be a tough young team.

I can't believe people are still in here complaining about Gillies. First off, fighting is not going anywhere! Never will. People have been saying this for years and years. Secondly, there are many guys in hockey far worse than Gillies. At least Gillies backs up his dirty plays with his fists. There have always been players who played on the edge. Some who would fight and back it up, like Hunter, McSorley, etc...and those who wouldn't like Ulfy and C. Lemieux, etc... That's the difference here. Gillies backs it up. He is exciting and I as well as many others would love him on our team to protect our talent. This is hockey people. Neither guy that Gillies hit got seriously hurt. If it makes people happy, keep complaining I guess, but not everyone agrees, and it isn't going to get rid of Gillies.

So that's what martin looks like when he fights someone without stalking them from behind? Not impressed. ...Any of you morons having anything positive to say about Gillies are way off the mark. That is not old time hockey. it is an untalented piece of crap on skates. He should be banned from the league permanently.

B.Job Crombeen throws a cheap late one martin answers with one of his own. No instgator. In what other ways can the islanders be screwed by the refs/league this year. It's verging on embarrasing for this league and the inconsistency with its rules. They pick and choose. Boston vs Montreal brawl game-"good old time hockey". Isles/Pens brawl game=isles are a bunch of goons and cant control their team. Lemeuix has the dirtiest player Cooke on his team and continues to write his checks. Double Standard-corrupt league. isles fans are not just fed up with Wang/Snow anymore, but with the disrespect form Bettman/Campbell.

Draw in a good defensive bout. Too bad the lnesmen didn't get dropped when steppng in at an ill-advised time. Morons...

Bigbad bruin and kbelanger. Get real guys. The Isles are not thugs, Gilles is. He doesn't belong in the NHL game. You wanna go with someone, fine go get him. Do so without cheap shots. Fighting is a big part of the game and needs to be a part of the game. It's Gilles **** that will take fighting out of the game. If the Isles had any class as an organization, they should release him! How many points in his career??? Now, how many PIM's? He's useless nad harms the game overall.

Solid Draw, sweater jabs.
Funny to hear Isle announcers crying about an instigator call, Ironic.
Posted by joedog on Mar 8, 2011 at 2:10 PM agree disagree
should have been an instigator, but Marty says lets go then. martin lands 2 rights in the fight , blues crombee seen winceing twice from rights. not a big thriller but martin lands 2 rights for the win. Just a add with the isles winning you could see Martin played it smart, finally just said ok crom lets go, Isles kept the momentum as \Martin laughed his way thru the fight since crombeen was the one looking to change the momentum yet didn;t really want to fight. Martin just laid back looking for a right.

Not much happening here. Both players protecting themselves. Nice of Martin to oblige Crombeen with Martin's Islanders playing with a lead for a change. Draw

Quick side note: I'm hoping that most teams in the league start playing the way the islanders do. It would be really exciting to see other teams become as tight-knit as the isles are. Glad to see that after being pushed around for three years they got tough and are starting to play better. Boston is doing a similar thing (but with more talent than the isles) and that makes them both fun teams to watch.
