Anyone ever watch a NYR game? I'm no fan of Avery but people give him multiple cheap shots EVERY game.
Sean Avery is no fighter. He can hold his own against guys his size. That being said, I don't agree with him hitting guys when they are down. That's just garbage.

Nice to see that Prusty backed off...

Bout time the Flyers got a bit of their own medicine. The cheapest team in the league for decades.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

What Avery did was no worse than Carcillo jumping Marian Gaborik last season.

Not even close.

BTW...Avery fought Carcillo later that same game, and has mixed it up with anyone who takes shots at his teammates. Nobody notices that, though.

Aaron Asham, Matt Hendricks, Jordin Tootoo... three of his last four fights-those guys never drop the gloves, LOL.

I wish Godard would pound the living daylights out of Avery, just once. Then Shelley can do it. In fact everyone should be allowed to carry a bar of soap in a sock against Avery.

Avery with the tko win. Everyone knows this his how he fights. If u don't like, don't fight him. Nothing cheep, he dropped the gloves and then kick his ass. I would of done the same.

I am torn here. I love the goonery by the Rags on the Flyers. Let's be real here, many times over the years the roles were reversed. I did feel like **** though seeing that haymaker land on Carle and Avery pounding him while defenseless. A little roughing up, maybe a facewash is a ok (see prust on powe), but this was borderline discraceful. I understand you are down 3-0, on home ice, but let's go after Carcillo or Hartnell instead.

I am a Ranger fan by the way.

so many things went wrong here. dubinsky jumping shelley. prust jumping powe and avery being a douche again by only throwing punches when his opponent is screaming for help. win avery despite the unsportsmanlike conduct

you know everyone talks about how bush league avery is. but this guy carle wanted to fight avery and avery fought him. laid him out with the one punch. you cant say avery is the bad guy for fighting. especially since nearly 3/4 of his fights are against guys bigger than him! the few punches after was un-called for yes. but was is it not un-called for, when henrik has guys bumping him/knocking him over every game? or when carcillo pounds on gabby? or hows about when staal almost loses a teste cause of a spear then gets called for tripping? please avery by far has been the least bush player in the nhl. the guy cant touch the ice though without having 4 eyes on him. so with all that said, i say GO AVERY! and LETS GO RANGERS and FORGET EVERYONE ELSE!!

Avery and Carle paired off as they came in. I don't see any evidence that Avery searched out Carle. Carle chooses to go with Avery (headlocked him) after that. Avery cranks him with a right (just after Carle attempts to throw a punch). At that point everything is fine (Avery wise; Newberry is a goofball). Starting the lawnmower is another story. Not that I want to defend Avery (or the Rangers), but it's hard to say Avery "spot-picked" this fight. Mostly hapenstance.

Looks to me like the tough guy skated into the crowd, specifically grabbed a non-fighter even though fighters were out there, and then issues a whoopin.

Naturally, I'm talking about the Carcillo-Gaborik fight of 1 year ago. There is a scrum, and Carillo FLIES in from the other side of the ice to grab Gaborik, get him to drop his gloves, and pummell him. For the memory impaired, here's the link:

http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/91432

Bonus! Here's a DIRECT QUOTE from a rabid Carcillo defender (beantown, who also posted in this fight - how ironic):

"CARLE dropped his gloves and had a go of it. he lost. what is AVERY supposed to do, let CARLE punch him?

dont give me this-- AVERY should only go against heavyweights-- bullsh!t. they are all men. if you go, you go, and you do what you can. hopefully you live to do it again."

I have changed the names - and ONLY the names - to prove how much karma can burn. The quote is on page 3 of the comments from the Carbomb/Gabby fight page.

Don't like the extra shot by Avery after Carle was down, but he was the one that grabbed Avery in the first place. Nice punch that dropped him. You don't have to like Sean Avery, but calling this a win for Carle, or even a draw, is ridiculous. Mart Carle was dropped by a great punch. Easy win for Avery.

Isn't this what the Flyers used to do way back in yesteryear?

Find non-fighters and beat the heck out of them?

The shoe is in the other foot.

Props for Prust.

Remember Carcillo - Gaborik?
