Dion Phaneuf vs Ilya Kovalchuk

Props to Kovie for at least sticking up for himself but he was lucky to have been able to hang on for dear life.

No need to bash Phaneuf as is customary. He's a top tier defenseman who plays a physical game, clears the crease, can hit in the open ice with the best and has a solid offensive game. However he's a mediocre fighter who stands up when he has too. Any teams out there who wouldn't take him?.....Didn't think so.

I feel sorry for Phaneuf. He carries such a large rep that he never truly earned. He's an average D with some offense, but he can't fight at all. I guess that's why he always picks on the other teams stars as they usually don't fight.

Kovalchuk can't score or fight sums up the Devils season. He did take one on the cheek-kudos

I like how the NJ announcers try to justify the cut Kovalchuk got from a punch by saying it was from a stick when the stick was CLEARLY in the chest level. LOL! They also said he took down Phaneuf as just as Phaneuf lands on TOP of Kovalchuk! LOL!

As for Kovalchuk being "high end" talent, that's a joke right? He's not even in the top 30 in the NHL in scoring, mediocre, overrated player at best. Corey Perry is in the top 5 scoring and fights almost every week.

Btw, notice the hair pull by Kovalchuk? He's done that before. THE most awkward "fighter" in the NHL.
