Oct 04, 1999 Chicago Blackhawks Steve Passmore
3pd 18:45 San Jose Sharks Steve Shields
Janssens flattens (well kind of) Shields resulting in a pile of players by the crease. Pushing shoving, etc. Everybody awkwardly squares off and the camera pans towards Passmore. He has Korolyuk and has this evil look, kind of saying let go or I'll deck ya. The only problem with this is that they are focusing way too much on passmore and not showing what else is going on. At this pont, they scan to show Zmolek doing a number on somebody, whom I believe to be Marleau. Korolyuk comes to his rescue and takes a wooping himself. Now Myhres goes after Passmore and Janssens comes in and kind of blindsides him with a weak punch, sending Myhres, Janssens, linesman Mike Civic all to the ice. That's when Passmore and Shields squared off and had a short lackluster bout, and then separated on their own.

Oct 04, 1999 Chicago Blackhawks Mark Janssens
2pd 14:39 San Jose Sharks Ronnie Stern
Brad Brown clocks Stern along the boards starting a scrum. Janssens pulls Stern away and they hook up and agree to fight. After some positioning, Janssens gets free and winds up to land a big left that is answered with a hard right by Stern. They start trading lefts with Janssens landing harder and cleaner causing Stern to hug on to him. They wrestle in close quarters for a while before Janssens pushes off and lands a right. At this point they each have a hand free and Janssens lands a good left. Stern attempts a left of his own, but it doesn't reach and Janssens finishes off the fight landing a few more lefts. As they separate we see that Stern is cut badly and he takes a desperate swing at Janssens while skating off, but hits the linesman instead. Other Penalties: Janssens received an instigator and misconduct; Stern a roughing, high sticking and game misconduct; Brantt Myhres a misconduct.
Voted winner: Mark Janssens (91.7%) - Voted rating: 6.8

Oct 02, 1999 Anaheim Ducks Ruslan Salei
2pd 04:00 Dallas Stars Brett Hull
Modano was knocked unconscious four minutes into the second period when he was checked head-first into the boards by Anaheim defenseman Ruslan Salei. Modano was down for some five minutes before his neck was stabilized. He was carried from the ice on a stretcher and taken to Baylor University Medical Center. Salei was assessed a five-minute major for checking from behind, which carries an automatic game misconduct. "Preliminary discussions with the doctors are ligament injury to the neck and the severity is not known," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. "Best-case scenario out of this is that he has a stiff neck, which is remarkable given the severity of the hit. There's no neurological damage and he will be held overnight and will be further evaluated tomorrow. He does have a concussion but fortunately, it's very slight." "I'm very sorry and I sure hope Modano is not hurt," Salei said. After the hit, Stars right wing Brett Hull went after Salei and was given an instigator penalty and a fighting major. "My initial thought (was) was he dead. My No. 1 concern is that when a player goes into the boards like that is that he is seriously hurt," Hull said. "I think it's just a matter of time before somebody is seriously hurt or is killed on a play like that. It was an absolutely ridiculous play and was disgustingly cheap. The hit was something far worse than cowardly. As far as I'm concerned, he should be out of the league. It's time for the powers that be to step up and make a lesson of this guy." Other Penalties: Salei received a checking from behind major and a game misconduct; Hull an instigator and game misconduct.
