Hello Boys and girls. Well, the season is now in full swing and things are starting to get settled down in the League. Patterns are starting to emerge and with each passing game we are starting to see who may continue to shine, who the sleeper teams are, and answer the many questions that we had from the summer. Nobody is surprised that the Avs would make a good if not the best showing this year. Roy going for the record and Bourque going for the cup they have all the motivation to win this year, but who thought that the Senators and the Coyotes would be so good so soon? The former junior leaguers (Sedin twins, Justin Williams) are also making serious strides in the regular season, shocking everyone who thought they wouldn't make it out of camp. And with the questions, Will the Flyers miss Eric Lindros? Will Mike Peca re-sign with the Sabers? Will Wayne Gretzky be allowed to visit his team? An overwhelming no answers all those questions. But let's look to our future.
1. I thought the summer was for healing.
3 weeks into the season teams are starting to miss there power players. Steve Yzerman is now out needing knee surgery, Olaf Kolzig out of the net and John LeClair not facing a Flyer return until December really leaves a gaping hole in their respective spots. Their teams are feeling their absences. 6-8 weeks in the summer is a break for the players, often described as flying by. But during the season 6-8 weeks never sounded so long away.
2. Erasing the past
Patrick Roy has tied Terry Sawchuck's record, and looking to surpass it with flying colors. His dad told him that tying the record took Roy 447 wins, but it only takes 1 to beat it. If Roy finds that any anxiousness he has is persistent, perhaps Roy can call Brett Hull for advise. Brett just passed his father and Mario Lemieux's records for lifetime goals. Crazy kids have no respect for the past, do they?
3. Fight Nicely Boys
The NHL is cracking down on minor penalties hoping to open up the ice for more scoring chances and a more fluid game. So of course to do this, let's make it more fluid by call more penalties. Then again we could make the game entirely 4 on 4. Either way, the gritty defenseman is out of a job. But we all saw that coming with the McSorley ruling right?
Well that's all for now, until next time my little hockey pucks, I wish you a good day, and a great game.
